FAQ: 04 and read

If the IP-address is attainable, not however the computer name, the
input of the IP address can be instead of the server name during the
connecting mechanism in
Outlook® a
solution. Also it can be an advantage, if the server have a own
(firm) IP-address
With firmly installed IP addresses without using a DNS server it is
also possible to extended the host files of the Clients and the
server. If you use an own DNS server, check please the entries of
the DNS server for correctness.
A cause:
In the TCP IP settings of the network card is an external DNS server
registered. On the register side "DNS configuration" is registered a
DNS suffix and/or a domain.
Possible Solution:
This attitude is not correct in most cases. Delete the DNS suffix
and/or the DNS server.
Another cause:
The DCOM-Interface is not correctly configured on the Client and/or
the server.
Check the settings:
Open the DCOM-configuration with Start->Run->"dcomcnfg"
Only for
Windows® XP and
Windows®
2003:

- Component services->Computer->My computer
- right mouse-click on "My Computer" and select " Characteristics
/Properties"
Change to register card "Standard properties" and check the
following options:
"DCOM (Distributed COM) activate on this computer" -> this must be
active.
"COM-Internet services activate on this computer" -> can be active.
"Standard Authentication level" -> "connect" (Standard) or "none"
" Standard identity change level" -> "Identify"
"Additional security for reference logging" -> can be active
.
Change to register card "Standard protocols" and check the settings:
The entry "Connecting oriented TCP/IP" must stand in this place.
Windows® 98SE does not have a
surface to configure the DCOM interface.
You can download this "DCOM98 for
Windows®
98 configuration utility" as a separate download:
