Go with the Thinkpad x100e, but upgrade to 4 GB of ram. I am also a student and looking for a good ultraportable that will meet the needs to run office, web and PowerPoint without any issues. The x100e has a better keyboard and support than Dell can ever offer....just google about dells horrible customer support.
The build quality will also be superior, and the processor is also more powerful. I'm getting the x100e once the dual core amd processor offerings are out and installing an intel x25-m solid state drive to improve boot times and speeds.
Just remember the x100e has an awesome ans solid keyboard, all the reviews say how outstanding it is to type on this machine
The thinkpad x100e seems to be a solid laptop from the reviews I've read and you definately want solid customer support in case something goes wrong. Lenovo is very good at this. Look for the dual core AMD x100e versions sometime in February or early march.
