Why the Pentium M 1.73GHz CPU only works at 1.3GHz in my DELL Inspiron 8600 laptop?
I've just currently upgraded a Pentium M 1.73GHz CPU for my DELL Inspiron 8600 laptop. The Windows XP device manager read correctly it's a 1.73GHz CPU but some how it has been configured to only runs max speed of 1.30GHz?? I went to check with the system BIOS, the BIOS only read it at 1.30GHz clock....??I've tried to flash the BIOS, reinstall WindowsXP and tried to use SwitchspeedXP(A CPU frequency scalling software) but nothing helped.......Is anybody would be able to tell me why and show me the way to work this out? Thank you guys.
Answer:
your original processor was a pentium m 1.3 / 1.4 ghz with 1 mb l2 cache. chipset is intel 855pm & data bus speed is 400 mhz
possibly u'r motherboard or some component may be causing some hardware conflict / bottle-neck & not permitting the new processor to run to full capacity
