Frequently Asked Questions...
How many megabytes of data will it take to noticeably slow down your pc when it's on your desktop?
I'm running an ordinary dell p4 with 512 mb of ram, and using xp.
I know it will slow down your pc to let stuff pile up on your desktop but it seems like it happens anyway. I've let it get away from me, and it bogs down quite a bit. Also, I just cleaned it up down to what I really want there, and it's still around 7 mb.
What I guess I'm wondering is, how much difference does that 7 mb make? Would going up to a gig of ram help?
Thanks to anyone w/ some good input.
Kevin
Thanks to all that answered, but no disrespect intended - I learned that desktop data does slow your desktop from an expert. I was dubious as well. If you don't believe me, put 100 mb of stuff on your desktop. The easiest way is to just drag a big folder on there. Music or videos will do it. No one actually answered the question, unfortunately, so I went with the one that was accurate - if not an exact answer. - which was SJ's. Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer.
Answer:
7 MB won't effect it at all unless they're animations or something running around on your desktop. Going to a gig of ram will help your system anyway.
